A 30-YEAR-old woman was found lying injured a field by a group of school children today.

The group of youngsters discovered the woman in a field near to St Paul’s RC Primary School in Preston Old Road, Blackburn, around 3pm.

A spokeswoman for the ambulance service said paramedics found the woman had facial, leg and ankle injuries when they arrived.

The woman had told the children, who are believed to be aged 15 and 16-years-old, to leave her alone, according to the ambulance service.

But after seeing the extent of her injuries the youngsters contacted the ambulance service.

A rapid response vehicle was mobilised to the scene followed by ambulance.

Paramedics assessed the woman at the scene and she was then taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital.

Eyewitnesses saw the woman being led from the field to the vehicle before being taken to the emergency department.

An ambulance service spokeswoman said: “The children came across a lady, who is believed to be in her 30s, with injuries to her face, leg and ankle.

She told them to leave her but they then called 999.”

The youngsters were commended for their actions by a civic leader.

Coun Derek Hardman, of the Livesey with Pleasington ward, said: “It was very public spirited especially in this day and age where many people would walk on by.

“They really should be commended.

“It was brilliant action for children of their age group who could see something was wrong.

“The lady said she was OK, but the children felt that she wasn’t, and they contacted the medical experts who assessed her and then she was taken to hospital.”
