AN EAST Lancashire man says his fight to win custody of his brother through the Pakistani courts is ‘going nowhere’.

Abid Ali’s father, step-mother and two young sisters were killed in a car crash in the Punjab province on New Year’s Day.

Ever since, the 34-year-old, of Ontario Close, Blackburn, has been fighting to win custody of seven-year-old Qasim Mohammed Akbar, the only person to survive the horror smash, against a counter claim by family friends.

The family, who still own a house in Clitheroe, also ran an off licence in Leeds Road, Nelson, had moved to Pakistan for an extended holiday.

Mr Ali, who had stayed in East Lancashire, flew to Pakistan after hearing of the crash.

He said: “It’s just been dragging on for so long, we’ve been going to the courts day in and day out.

“In all this time I have only been able to see my brother for five minutes.

"This kid’s life is in the judge’s hands.”
