CCTV images of a gang who attacked a security van with a sledgehammer have been released by police.

The pictures taken from the Texaco garage in Blackburn Road, Haslingden, show two of the four masked men who tried to rob the cash delivery van at 6.30am on Tuesday, February 8.

The men then went into the garage but fled empty-handed and left in a silver Vauxhall Astra.

The Astra was abandoned at the junction of South Shore Street and Charles Lane and the gang ran to a waiting BMW saloon car, which was parked on the opposite side of the bollards.

DI Nick Hodgeson from Pennine CID said: “As the investigation progresses, there are some further points that have come to our attention that I would appeal for information about.

“Firstly, I am really keen to speak to two men who were walking in the middle of Townsend Street immediately after the robbery.

"The men, one of whom was wearing a high visibility jacket, were walking in the middle of the road and were forced apart when a Silver Vauxhall Astra drove down that road between the two of them.

“Secondly, a silver Vauxhall Astra was abandoned at the junction of South Shore Street and Charles Lane and a number of men, dressed in dark clothing were seen to get out of the car and run to a waiting BMW saloon car which was parked on the opposite side of the bollards.”
