A WINNING lottery ticket has been sold at a Darwen service station.

The prize – rumoured to be in the region of £2 million – has been claimed, but the lucky winner has asked for no publicity.

Staff at Bolton Road Service Station, which is part of the Kay Group, said they has been tipped off by Camelot about the ticket last week.

A spokeswoman for the garage said: “I can confirm it is true that we have been told we have sold a big winning lottery ticket.

“But we don’t know how much or which draw it was – the ordinary lottery draw or the Euro Millions.”

A spokeswoman for Camelot, which runs the National Lottery, said: “If a retailer receives notification from Camelot that they have sold a winning ticket, then I have to respect the privacy of the winner and can’t give out any more information.

“What I can say is that there are no unclaimed prizes in that area at the moment.”

There is currently no indication of which area the winner lives.

Darwen Mayor Paul Browne said: “I can confirm that it’s definitely not me, but good luck to whoever it is.”

It is the latest in a series of big wins for people living in East Lancashire.

Before Christmas there was a high-profile hunt for a mystery winner of a £1million Euromillions raffle in the Blackburn area.

And in 2009 a syndicate of staff at ASK Rewinds in Altham won nearly £4million.
