EDUCATION bosses will be reviewing a High Court decision that could see axed school rebuilding programmes resurrected.

Both Blackburn with Darwen Council and Lancashire County Council will be reviewing the judgement that the Government acted unlawfully when it scrapped Building Schools for the Future, BSF, programmes.

In Lancashire the remainder of Pendle, Rossendale and Hyndburn schools will not be rebuilt or revamped.

And in Blackburn with Darwen plans for the next phase were scaled back while Bolton’s scheme was scrapped.

Judges in the High Court were forced to consider the Government’s actions after Waltham Forest Council, Luton Borough Council, Nottingham City Council, Sandwell Council, Kent County Council and Newham Council launched a legal challenge on a decision to scrap BSF schemes.

Councillor Maureen Bateson, executive member for Blackburn with Darwen Council’s children’s services, said: “We will be studying the outcome of this case very carefully and considering whether it has an impact on Blackburn with Darwen.

“We will be consulting with our colleagues in Bolton to see what, if any, implications there are for them in this judgment and for the partnership we have with them.

"We will then need to consider our next steps.”
