LANCASHIRE’s top policeman has signed a three-year extension to his contract, which will see him in place until at least March 2015.

Chief Constable Steve Finnigan has been in charge of the constabulary since 2005.

He said: “I'm extremely proud to have been given this three year extension to my contract. Lancashire has an enviable and impressive history of very high performance, and I am confident that I can help lead us through these challenging times to sustain our position as best we can.

“It is clear that there will be an extensive programme of reform for the police service as a whole over the coming years.”

Malcolm Doherty, chair of Lancashire Police Authority, said, “This is good news for the constabulary, the Police Authority and most importantly the people who live, work or visit Lancashire, who trust us to keep them safe.

“Steve Finnigan has overseen an impressive period of performance improvements and I can think of no-one more able to steer us through the challenges ahead.”
