A DAREDEVIL stuntman has dedicated the past 20 years to dicing with death - all in the name of entertainment.

Dave Goodwin, 40, car crash displays see him smash through a burning caravan, roll his vehicle in mid air and delibrating drive into another car to make it explode.

The Bunley dad, who takes his seven-year-old son and family to watch his shows, said he became interested in motorsports at an early age.

He said: “I was driving a tractor on my grandma's farm at seven, and drove a car at 11. I just got a taste for it.

“By the time I was 16 to 17 I was stockcar racing and it's just developed from there.

“I joined The Monster Truck show in 1991. I had gone to Heaton Park in Manchester to watch them and after the show I knocked on their caravan door and gave them my name and number. I kept mithering them until they gave me a chance.”

During a two-year intensive training course Dave worked with the stunt coordinator from the box office cinema smash Titanic.

He now has his own company, Car Stunts UK, and works with two other firms, Monster Stunts and Motor Stunts International.

He has around eight shows planned this year, and is looking to attract local sponsors.

His latest booking is as part of the line-up for Stunt Fest 2011 at Santa Pod Raceway in Northamptonshire.

Around 10,000 people are expected to attend the high octane event on Saturday, February 19, which will include monster truck, motocross and car stunts, plus fire and firework displays.

Dave will perform three stunts at the show – the car rollover crash, the flying domino and the caravan crash.

He uses normal cars, without roll cages or safety features, and removes only their glass windows for public safety.

He said: “For the rollover I'll go up a kit ramp, roll the car over one or two times, and time it to land on its wheels while keeping it running. I go around until the roof comes in too far or the car packs up!

“The flying domino is a car stood on its nose propped up, I jump a ramp and hit it and the car explodes on impact with pyrotechnics.

“The caravan will burst into a fireball as the car comes off a ramp, twists in the air, goes through the caravan and hopefully out the other side!”
