A PASSENGER was taken to hospital after a car smashed through a barrier and crashed into bales of hay last night.
The pair crashed on a right bend of the north carriage of the A56 between Rising Bridge and Huncoat at around 9.25pm.
Firefighters said the middle aged driver was able to free himself from the vehicle but the passenger had to be cut free.
Watch manager Keith Cunliffe said they removed the roof from the car before the man was strapped to a spine board and taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital.
The man had a suspected broken arm and head injuries. The driver was treated for shock.
One lane of the A56 was closed while the emergency services worked to rescue and then clear up the scene
