THE Mayor of Darwen and the town council leader have been retained in a vote by town council members.

Lib Dem councillor Paul Browne will stay on as mayor, and Lib Dem Steve Duncan will stay on in the role of leader.

Coun Duncan said: “I was willing to step down as I was of the opinion that the mayor and the leader shouldn’t come from the same party, but members voted to keep us for the remainder of the term, which is up to May 2012.

“I am very happy with that decision and Paul’s delighted – he was born to be mayor.”

The next meeting of the town council will take place in Darwen Town Hall at 7pm on Tuesday, March 1. All are welcome.
