DETECTIVES have issued a picture of a ‘gunman’ wanted after a gang of three held up a teenager in Burnley.

The youngster was going home along Eastern Avenue when he was approached by a trio wearing black hooded tops.

One of the men, who were all Asian, stepped into his path as he walked from Widow Hill Road, and another demanded his mobile phone.

Police said the victim denied he had a phone but the second man produced what was said to be a handgun and repeated his demand.

The victim handed over an HTC Wildfire model phone and the three fled.

DC Ian McLean, of Burnley CID, said: “This is an extre-mely serious offence which involved the use of a real or imitation firearm.

“I would urge people to take a close look at the Evofit and if anyone thinks they recognise this man, not to approach him but to contact police.”

The weapon suspected to have been used was black, nine inches long with a six- inch handle and a barrel.

Police believe the weapon is most likely to be an imitation firearm.

The gunman is said to be 5ft 6 in, aged 17 to 18, slim, with black gelled hair.

He was wearing a black hooded top with red stripes on the arms. He also wore dark jeans.

His two accomplices were both said to have been similarly dressed.

People who can help with the identity of any of the three men, who struck on Saturday, January 8, are urged to call Burnley CID on 01282 472240 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
