GRASS verges in two Pendle streets have been cut up by tyre tracks left by recycling wagons, according to angry residents.
Residents claim a fortnightly recycling collection wagon has caused the deep ridges in the verges in Clegg Street and Bown-ess Avenue, Nelson.
The issue was first bought to Pendle Borough Council in early December and it promised action, but residents say they have heard nothing.
Peter Simpson said: “It’s just wrecking the place.
“After we phoned the council in early December a worker came out to take photos and said they would be back in touch within a couple of days.
"But we have heard nothing since.
“There is plenty of room for the wagon to go past.
“I have lived round here all my life and love the area.
"The grass verges are very nice, but these drivers seem to have no respect for the neighbourhood.”
Coun Eileen Ansar, who represents Clover Hill ward, said: “These are neighbours that have pride in where they live.
"Residents have come out and put the damaged grass back, but why should they have to reinstate something they didn’t do?”
Pendle Borough Council said it would carry out repair work on the verges in the next few days.
David Walker, waste services manager, said: “A resident contacted us on December 14.
“We inspected for ourselves and accepted liability for the damage to the grass verge.
“But the snow and sub-zero temperatures that followed meant the ground was too hard for repair work to be done.
“Our drivers do find that parked vehicles sometimes restrict their access to streets on collection day.
“This causes vehicles to carry out a manoeuvre which may involve reversing within a restricted area.”
