FREEZING temperatures have led to the closure of numerous public toilets in the Ribble Valley after their pipes burst.
Nine public conveniences have been shut. They are those at Brungerley, Woone Lane and Edisford Road, Clitheroe, Chatburn, Dunsop Bridge, Gisburn, Newton, Slaidburn and Waddington.
A spokesperson for Ribble Valley Borough Council said: “The weather has caused a number of problems in public toilets.
“We know where some of the burst pipes are, and the toilets are temporarily closed owing to the exceptionally cold weather resulting in damage to the water pipes, and the water being turned off.
“We apologise for this loss of service, and are working hard to repair the pipes, undertake remedial repairs, and re-open the toilets again as soon as possible."
