THIS weekend, Remembrance Sunday memorial services will be held in towns and villages across East Lancashire to pay tribute to servicemen and women who have died in conflict.
The following events are taking place:
SATURDAY:
Darwen: Service outside the town hall at 11am followed by a wreath-laying at the Belgrave Square Boer War memorial.
Edenfield: Service at the memorial gardens in Market Street at 11am.
SUNDAY
Accrington: Service and wreath-laying at the Cenotaph, Oakhill Park, at 10.30am. Afterwards there will be a parade into the town centre.
Altham: Service at St James' Church at 10am followed by wreath-laying at the war memorial.
Bacup: Parade from the Conservative Club at 2.45pm to the Cenotaph followed by service at 3pm.
Barnoldswick: Service of Remembrance will be held at 3pm. Procession to the Cenotaph for wreath-laying.
Barrowford: Assemble at Holmefield House procession at 10am to St Thomas’ Church proceeding to the War Memorial in Barrowford.
Baxenden: Service at St John’s Church at 3pm.
Blackburn: Service at the cathedral from 9.30am. Parade at 10.25am from King William Street to Corporation Park for wreath-laying.
Blacko: Please assemble at the Cenotaph at 10.50am, where a service will be held at 11am, followed by refreshments at Blacko Independent Methodist Church.
Brierfield: Assemble at Cenotaph 10.40am. Wreaths will be laid and a short service conducted by Captain Janice Lahaoul of The Salvation Army, including the two minute silence at 11am.
Burnley: Parade at 10am from Curzon Street to the war memorial in Croft Street for a service and wreath-laying at 10.50am. Afterwards the procession will continue to Towneley Park for wreath-laying at the war memorial.
Chorley: People are invited to join the procession to church, which sets off from the Town Hall entrance, on St Thomas’s Road, at 9.30am. The service starts at 10am.
Church: Parade from Bank Street at 10.30am to Gatty Park war memorial for service and wreath-laying.
Clayton-le-Moors: Procession at 9.30am from Civic Hall to All Saints Church for service at 10am. Parade then continues for wreath-laying at 11am at Mercer Park.
Clitheroe: A service will be held at Trinity Church at 10.30, followed by a parade to the Castle.
Colne: The procession will assemble at the Royal British Legion Headquarters, Keighley Road, Colne, at 10.15am, and will proceed to Cenotaph at approximately 11am.
Darwen: Service at St Peter's Church at 2.30pm followed by wreath-laying at the war memorial in Bold Venture Park.
Darwen: Service at 9am at St Joseph's Church, followed by a church parade.
Earby: The parade will assemble at the New Road Community Centre at 1.45pm before proceeding to the Cenotaph at the Memorial for a 2.30pm service.
Foulridge: A service will be held at the Parish Church at 9.15am followed by another short service at the Cenotaph at 11am. The wreath will be laid by Councillor Carol Belshaw.
Fence: A memorial service will be held at the Cenotaph at 12.15pm. The wreath will be laid by Councillor John David.
Great Harwood: Church service at St Bartholomew’s and St John’s at 10am. Parade starts at 10.35am from Town Gate to the war memorial.
Higham: The service and wreath-laying ceremony will be held at St.John’s Church, Higham Hall Road, at 10.30am.
Haslingden: Parade from Lower Deardengate at 10am to the war memorial in Greenfield Gardens for a wreath-laying at 10.15am then to St James' Church for a service at 10.25am.
Helmshore: Parade from outside the Bridgend car park at 8.45am to to St Thomas' Church for a service at 9.15am then to the memorial gardens for wreath-laying.
Hoddlesden: Service at St Paul's Church at 9.15am followed by wreath-laying at the war memorial at 11.55am.
Huncoat: Parade from the corner of Burnley Lane and Lowergate Road at 2.10pm to the war memorial for wreath-laying ceremony at 2.30pm.
Mellor: A service will be held at St Mary's Church at 10.30am.
Nelson: The parade will assemble at the Innovation Centre, Brunswick Street, Nelson at 1.30pm and proceed to the Cenotaph for a service at 2pm.
Newchurch: Festival of Remembrance concert featuring the Stacksteads Band at St Nicholas' Church in Church Lane at 7pm.
Oswaldtwistle: Parade from Thwaites Street at 2.10pm to the war memorial in Rhyddings Street for a service and wreath-laying at 2.30pm.
Padiham: Assembly for Service at St. Leonard’s Church at 9.30am, followed by a parade to the town's memorial.
Ramsbottom: Parade leaves the Central Street Club at 10.50am to the cenotaph in Bridge Street. A service will then be held at St Paul’s Church before the parade returns to the Ramsbottom Royal British Legion Club.
Rawtenstall: Parade from the side of the police building at 2.35pm to the church and cenotaph for a service and wreath-laying at 3pm.
Rishton: Service at 9.45am at St Peter and St Paul’s Church. Parade at 10.30am from Station Road to the war memorial for a service and wreath-laying. Afterwards, the parade will return to the library.

Sabden: A service will be held at Sabden War Memorial from 10.30am.
Trawden: The service will be held at the Parish Church, Church Street, Trawden, at 9.45am. After the service another short service will be held at the Cenotaph at 10.45am.
Waterfoot: Service at the memorial gardens, in Burnley Road East, at 12 noon.
Whalley: Act of Remembrance will take place at Wiswell War Memorial at 9.30am. A service will be held at The Parish Church of Saint Mary and All Saints at 10.30, followed by procession to memorial.
Whitworth: Parade from the former town council offices, on the corner of Market Street and Tong Lane, at 10.20am to the cenotaph.
Yesterday East Lancashire fell silent to mark Armistice Day.
Civic dignitaries gathered at town halls, including in Blackburn, Darwen, Accrington, Burnley, Rawtenstall and Nelson, to mark the two minutes' silence.
A service also took place in Oswaldtwistle to commemorate the addition of the names of the Second World War fallen to the refurbished war memorial in Union Road.
