POLICE were called to the emergency care unit at Royal Blackburn Hospital by staff who were being abused and threatened by a drunken patient.
Blackburn magistrates heard Abdull Basit was escorted from the premises but struggled violently when told he was being arrested.
Basit, 18, of Throstle Close, Burnley, pleaded guilty to using threatening behaviour, an offence which put him in breach of a suspended prison sentence order imposed by Burnley magistrates for driving while disqualified.
He was fined £100 for the hospital offence and sent to Youth Offending Institution for 12 weeks for the breach.
Peter Wild, prosecuting, said Basit had to be taken to the ground and handcuffed as nurses, doctors and patients looked on.
Jonathan Taylor, defending, said Basit knew he had let himself down during the currency of the suspended prison sentence.
“He thinks his drinks had been spiked and that was why he acted in the way he did,” said Mr Taylor.
