CONSTRUCTION work at Darwen Vale school will start in January.
Hoardings have already been put up around the site in Blackburn Road in preparation for a £25million transformation under the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme.
The historic frontage of the school will be kept with the rest of the school being rebuilt for the 21st century, with working eco features and a central eye-catching school hub and auditorium.
Students and staff have temporarily moved to the former Darwen Academy building in Holden Fold until work is complete in 2012.
Headteacher Hilary Torpey said she was thrilled to be joining the school at this time.
She said: “The temporary move to Holden Fold has gone very well and has been made possible by the hard work of all our staff and the great co-operation and enthusiasm of our students.
“There will be challenges ahead but with all this continued hard work I think the school has a very bright future.”
