A 76-year-old grandfather has appeared in court charged with 26 sexual offences against children, including rape.
Thomas Allan, of Sudellside Street, Darwen, was arrested on Monday by officers from East Lancashire’s Public Protection Unit.
He was brought before Blackburn magistrates yesterday to face a number of allegations including sexual touching, indecent assault, gross indecency, attempted rape and rape.
All the charges relate to alleged offences against children under 16.
The attacks are alleged to have taken place between 1967 and 2009.
The 26 charges are broken down into 13 indecent assault counts, seven gross indecency, five attempted rapes and one rape.
The pensioner was sent in custody to Preston Crown Court by Blackburn magistrates.
