A MINI-bus appeal for a Burnley special school to help youngsters go for outings and extra-curricular activities has been backed by Clarets star Clarke Carlisle.
Supporters of the Georgia Fourie appeal at Holly Grove School, named after the nine-year-old Water girl who was a pupil there, are about to stage their largest ever fundraiser.
And they are looking for businesses or individuals who can support their campaign to secure new transport for the Barden Lane school.
Georgia, of Dean Lane, Water, suffered from cerebral palsy, was blind and quadriplegic and suffered a curvature of the spine.
Her parents Mel and Tim Fourie, a former captain of the South African rugby league team, launched the appeal in her memory following her death in March 2009.
The spectacular will take place at the Burnley League Social Club in Richard Street on October 22, featuring young Elvis impersonator Jared Warne and Marie Grimshaw.
Staff are also clubbing together for a tribute to singer Beyonce Knowles as a grand finale.
Burnley defender Clarke has already visited the school to drop off home and away shirts for a raffle at the gathering.
He took time out to meet pupils at the school, part of the Burnley Campus development, and has asked to be kept informed about the appeal’s progress.
Appeal spokesman Susan Brown said: “So far we have raised around £5,000 and we’ve staged things recently like a fashion show and a curry night.
“Georgia’s parents also staged a charity rugby match and collected £600, which we are looking to double through a donation from Barclays Bank.
“But we are looking at around £20,000 for even a second-hand mini-bus, which would be specially-adapted for our youngsters.”
Susan and colleague Eve Taylor wrote to Clarke and were impressed by the interest he has shown, also securing two matchday tickets for the appeal.
People wanting tickets to the event, to donate prizes or find out more about the appeal can contact the school on 01282 682278.
