A BLIND man was kicked and punched during an unprovoked attack in a Burnley street.
Police have launched an investigation following the “vicious” attack on the 43-year-old who had been walking alone along Todmorden Road when two men started shouting abuse at him.
He was near to the junction with Yorkshire Street when the men kicked his white stick away, pushed him to the ground and assaulted him.
The man was left on the ground but managed to get home and alert the police.
He is still receiving treatment for the injuries, including severe bruising, he suffered during the attack at around 9pm on Sunday, September 26.
Detective Sergeant Neil Marr, who is leading the investigation, said: “The man was approached by the offenders who then tripped him up and started kicking him in the back.
“He did not have a dog with him and was a very vulnerable individual who has been left very shaken and bruised in this totally unprovoked attack.
“He is still in shock and this incident has effected his confidence. He is now afraid to leave home.”
Police are appealing for anyone who saw what happened or who has any information on those responsible to contact them.
DS Marr said: “It is a busy road and it wasn’t that late so there must have been some people who witnessed this awful attack on a defenceless man.
“I would urge anyone with information about the attackers to get in touch with us as soon as possible.”
Anyone with any information can contact DS Neil Marr on 01282 472282 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
