ONE hundred lanterns were released to light up the night sky in memory of a baby who died after a battle with serious illness.
The lanterns released behind Melrose Avenue, Burnley, were in memory of Kian Simpson, who died on Thursday, September 23, aged six months.
Kian suffered from congenital heart and lung disease.
Dozens of people bought the lanterns for £1.50, with the money going towards Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Liverpool, where Kian was treated.
Parents Chantel Strange and Steven Simpson, both 26, hope to raise enough for a plaque with Kian’s name on it to be installed at Ronald McDonald House, at Alder Hey.
On Saturday there will be a fun day fundraiser at the Railway Club, Rosegrove Lane, from 3pm.
Admission is £3 and children go free.
The event will feature face painting, entertainment, tombola and a pie and pea supper.
