TWO sisters swapped plunging necklines for plunging 235ft in their bras to raise money for charity.
Naomi Hickey and Nicola Walkden-O’Grady from the Darwen Ladies Circle had to make sure their modesty was kept intact as they boarded the front of the Pepsi Max Big One at Blackpool Pleasure Beach in their decorated underwear and pink tutus.
They led dozens of other women from Ladies Circle’s across the UK to raise awareness and funds for The Genesis Appeal – a breast cancer prevention charity.
Civil servant Naomi, 34, is Ladies Circle national president and chose the charity for the year.
She said: “My family has a history of breast cancer that hits them at a young age, including my mum who thankfully is a survivor.
“Thanks to Genesis, research is being carried out to find the gene that affects my family and plans are in place for me and my sisters to have regular mammograms from the age of 33 to help early detection.
“This is just one of the areas Genesis researches. We want to raise essential funds for the Genesis Appeal, to help make one in 10 women, and one in 1,000 men become none in 10 and none in 1,000.”
Naomi said the women attracted a lot of support during the stunt.
She said: “It took a bit of courage to do this wearing just our bras, but we’re up for most things.
“We got a lot of attention on the sea front with cars tooting us, but it drew attention to a great cause.”
The event was the first time Blackpool Pleasure Beach has played host to a group of women in their bras riding a rollercoaster.
“The Pleasure Beach have been right behind us from the off, and we can’t thank them enough for all their support”, said Nicola, 42, a retail assistant at John Lewis, who is from the Sudell area of Darwen.
It is one of many fundraisers for The Genesis Appeal during Naomi’s year as president. She hopes to raise £10,000 for charity during the year.
