Roll out the Barrel
It is all hands to the pumps for the Westmorland Branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) next week as Kendal is awash with a vast array of real ales. From noon to 11pm each day from Wednesday, September 13 to Saturday, September 16 the Town Hall will host the 17th Westmorland Beer Festival.
The number of traditional craft brewers in Cumbria and the rest of the United Kingdom has increased significantly over the years CAMRA has been campaigning for quality ales. There will be a splendid range of over 55 different beers plus real ciders and perry. The wide variety of styles of beer will include milds, bitters, stouts and lagers. Those not wishing to have anything too alcoholic can try traditional drinks such as Sarsaparilla and Dandelion and Burdock. Good quality cold food will be available to supplement the beers including some home-made produce.
Entry to the Festival is free and there will be live music on both Friday and Saturday evening. Commemorative glasses and other CAMRA products will be on sale. To mark the return of this popular annual beer festival Newsquest Northwest has joined forces with CAMRA to promote this competition. Our lucky readers have the chance to win one of three copies of The Good Beer Guide 2011 in this easy to enter giveaway. The Good Beer Guide is the beer drinkers’ indispensable guide to real ale, breweries and specially selected real ale pubs throughout England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man. Full details are given of Cumbria’s 29 independent breweries and in addition to a whole section on Cumbrian pubs, The Good Beer Guide features Coniston’s Black Bull Hotel on the cover.
