POLICE investigating a burglary at Clitheroe Football Club found a piece of paper with the culprit’s name written on it.
Blackburn magistrates heard Jordan Johnson denied leaving the “clue” but admitted the offence when he was arrested.
Johnson, 19, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to burglary and theft of spirits worth £25 and theft of an Xbox 360 and games on a separate occasion. He asked for three other offences of theft to be taken into consideration. Johnson was jailed for 16 weeks.
Peter Wild, prosecuting, said the burglary was discovered on a Sunday morning by a club official. A fire extinguisher had been discharged and bottles of drink taken.
The owner of the Xbox had taken the games machine to the home of a mutual friend and Johnson had been playing on it with the other two.
It was packed away in a rucksack but later that day Johnson had gone and so had the rucksack.
The owner later discovered the Xbox and games had been sold to Blockbuster in Clitheroe.
Clare Knight, defending, said Johnson had been without funds and living wherever he could for about a month and that had been behind the spate offences.
Miss Knight said Johnson had not left the piece of paper in the football club but had told the police another man was present at the time of the burglary.
“He says he would not be able to comply with any community penalty that was put forward and realises the only alternative is a custodial sentence,” said Miss Knight.
