A CHURCH is Nelson is to have its first female priest.
The Rev Lorelli Hilliard takes charge of St John the Evangelist, Great Marsden with St Philip, on Sunday.
Ms Hilliard has been a curate for the past four years in Hull.
She said: “I didn't really know East Lancashire existed before, so I have to say God attracted me here.
But I love the hills and the closeness to good walking country.”
Ms Hilliard grew up in London and Surrey but headed north to study physics at Durham University.
After graduating, she spent 20 years as an engineer in the oil and pharmaceutical industries.
