BRAVE birthday girl Madison Allan celebrates turning six today with a special cake driven 600 miles to her hospital bed in Germany.
But her family said the best birthday present she could receive was donations to the appeal paying for her last-chance cancer treatment.
Dad Mark Allan and grandparents Alison and John Foster will arrive laden with gifts at Greifswald Hospital on the Baltic Coast today after a 19-hour drive from Lower Darwen.
It is the first time Alison and John have seen Madison since she began high-tech chemotherapy treatment on a ‘spaghetti-like’ tumour in her stomach last month.
Alison said: “I’m really excited about it. I can’t wait to see her.
“Her mum Samantha said she’s been sick and off her food for the last few days, but hopefully seeing her Daddy will perk her up.
“We’ve had a lot of people dropping presents off for us to take to her, and an especially lovely card signed by all the children at Trinity Playschool.
“But we do really need donations to fund her treatment.
“We’ve raised £62,000 so far, but £44,000 of that will go towards this first phase of treatment, and there’s two more to come.
"She’ll be needing treatment for another 18 months yet.”
Herbert Parkinson Ltd of Darwen has made a bean bag for Madison to sit on while she is in hospital.
The Disney-themed birthday cake was donated by Tunstill’s Bakery of Darwen after Alison’s number was pulled out of a raffle held at a fundraiser for the Madison Allan Appeal at The Blues Bar, Ewood Park.
Shop owner Stephen Tunstill said: “We donated a cake to the raffle for the winner to claim when they were ready for one, but it just so happened the little girl’s ticket came up.
“We decided to donate an even more special cake because of this, and we’ve had to source it specially.”
