BURNLEY-based VEKA plc has become the first firm in the North West to sign up for the NSPCC 1600 Network Challenge.

The challenge sees companies pledge to raise a minimum of the £1,600 required to train a Childline volunteer.

Gabriela Hammond, human resources manager, said: “VEKA is extremely proud to be the first company in the North West to sign up for this great initiative.

“Many of our customers and staff have young families themselves and it’s important for us to work with a charity that has relevance to us and our clients.

“We hope to raise the £1,600 in many ways with staff from every department at VEKA getting involved and I’m confident that we’ll not only achieve the target, but exceed it.”
