TWO councillors have been urged to quit after putting Labour in charge of Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council.

Coun David Foster, leader of the Lib Dem group, has called on Earcroft councillors Trevor Maxfield and Anthony Meleady to resign after their vote in favour of Labour at last week’s extraordinary council meeting.

Couns Maxfield and Meleady were both members of the For Darwen Party, which was in coalition with the Tories and Lib Dems.

But last month they quit the party over coalition plans to cut services.

Coun Foster said: “These councillors were elected on the basis of which party they represented and now have decided to resign from that party.

"They should now ask the electors of Earcroft ward to endorse their decision.”
