STICKERS warning motorists to ‘kill’ their speed will be plastered across residents’ wheelie bins in three Pendle villages.
The stickers will be delivered to people in Barrowford, Higherford and Blacko.
Barrowford Parish Council said the action was being taken after householders in Gisburn Road and Barnoldswick Road frequently voiced concerns over vehicles speeding past their homes over a number of years.
It is hoped the stickers will be clearly visible to passing motor-ists on bin collection days and remind them not to exceed the 30mph limit.
John Pope, chairman of Barrowford Parish Council, said: “Speeding traffic along Gisburn Road through Blacko and Higherford and along Barnoldswick Road is frequently raised as a concern by residents.
A number of areas across England have introduced speeding stickers to wheelie bins and the overall response has been that the stickers do slow down the traffic, not just on the bin collection day but also on the days following.”
The parish council came up with the pilot scheme to crack down on speeders along the route between junction 13 of the M65 and the Yorkshire border.
A Pendle Community Safety Partnership grant made the project possible.
Volunteers from the parish council will be deliver the stickers to residents next month.
Mr Pope said: “The exercise is to be carried out on the first Saturday in October.
“If householders are not at home, a message will be left asking them to contact the council to arrange a time to call and fix the bin stickers.”
