THE family of a husband, wife and daughter from Nelson gunned down in Pakistan will see the case debated in the House of Commons.

Mohammad Yousaf, 51, his wife Parviaz, 49, and daughter Tania, 23, were shot dead at a cemetery near Gujrat on May 20.

But brothers Shiraz and Naveed Arif, who are accused of killing the three people, have been on the run since the end of May when they failed to attend court after being granted bail.

Andrew Stephenson, MP for Pendle, has now secured an Adjournment Debate in the House of Commons, where he will outline the case to the coalition Government and Foreign Office.

It will provide an opportunity for Mr Stephenson and other MPs to quiz senior members and ministers on what the UK Government is doing, or can do, to ensure progress is made with the investigation as soon as possible.

The debate will be broadcast live on the BBC Parliament Channel at 10pm on October 12.

Members of the Yousaf family will be present in the public gallery and are urging more Pendle residents to attend.

A family spokesman said: “We would like to thank Mr Stephenson for his continued support and guidance in helping us to get justice for the brutal murders.

“Whilst we appreciate 10pm on a Tuesday evening is not the most sociable of hours, we have a limited number of tickets for supporters wanting to attend the debate at the House of Commons.

“The more people we have attending the better as this will help us highlight the strength of feeling over this issue within Pendle and the wider community.

“This will also allow a wider debate on issues affecting all British Pakistanis when we visit Pakistan and to try and ensure we have full Government support if any of us have issues when we are out there.

“Finally we appreciate all the love and support you have given us and would urge everyone to continue to do this in what is becoming a long road to justice.”
