A CAMPAIGN to raise £250,000 to save a prominent feature of the Clitheroe skyline is being launched this weekend.
The 20-metre-tall spire at Clitheroe’s St Mary Magdalene CE Church is to be completely rebuilt.
The decision to save the spire, which dates from 1848, was made by the Parochial Church Council in March.
Church bosses have applied for a £175,000 grant from English Heritage, and will be holding a series of events over the year to raise the rest.
To mark the official launch of the Spire Fund Appeal, Clitheroe Parish Church will host a concert by cellist Siriol Hugh Jones tomorrow, at 11.30am.
Tickets are £5 for adults, and children go free.
Then, at 7pm, Frolicking Pete and the Fumbling Fingers will head to the St Mary’s Centre for a ceilidh.
Tickets are £5 for adults and £3 for children.
