STUDENTS arriving at the UCLan Burnley campus for the first time are being reminded to take care on the roads.

At the beginning of term, the roads usually feature students moving their possessions from across the country, or visiting friends in new places.

Alan Fisher, Lancashire County Council’s principal road safety adviser, is urging students not to overload their cars, or block the view out of their windows, to check tyre pressures before setting off, and to plan their journey beforehand.

Students making long journeys should also take 15-minute breaks every two hours, and should take out breakdown cover.

Mr Fisher said: “We want to ensure that students take responsibility for their personal safety, while enjoying all the wonderful experiences university has to offer.”
