THREE men, possibly brandishing guns, broke into a home and threatened householders in a raid late last night.

Police said the armed robbery saw the trio confront a couple in Richmond Park, Darwen, before fleeing empty-handed.

Detective Sergeant Rob Anderson said: “We are looking for three men in connection with the incident.

“At this stage there are unsubstantiated reports that at least one of the men was carrying a firearm.

“We are now working hard to determine whether any gun was in fact used, and what the circumstances of the incident were.

“At this stage we do not believe that anything was taken.

“Firearm incidents are extremely rare in this area, but we will make every effort to confirm the exact nature of the incident and find those responsible.”

Police said the incident, at around 10pm, saw three men burst into the home, before making threats.

Officers were today completing investigations at the home and interviewing the victims.

Scenes of crime officers also completed their work yesterday morning at the scene.

Both occupants of the house were uninjured in the incident.

Today neighbours said they had not seen anything.

One said: “It is so quiet down here normally and I didn’t hear anything.

“It would be shocking if there were people making threats with guns on this street.”

Any witnesses, or anyone with information, is urged to call 0845 1253545, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
