A BURNLEY couple are hoping to make a big splash for charity when they brave the icy waters of Salford Quays.
Chris and Sue Wallace, of Kibble Crescent, will join hundreds of swimmers for the one-mile Great Salford Swim later this month.
They decided to take the plunge to raise money for Pendleside Hospice in Reedley.
Physio Chris, 50, said: “My mum died of cancer a few years ago and it’s times like that the hospice comes into its own, helping people with terminal illness.
“I think everyone in the area has been helped by the hospice and they do great work.”
They have prepared for the swim, which takes in stunning sights such as the Lowry, by attending sessions at St Peter’s Centre with Swimjets.
Chris, who has children David 17, and Sophie 15, said: “We’ll be wearing wetsuits but the practice run last week was very cold indeed.”
The swim is open to swimmers of all ages and abilities.
