AN award-winning pub in rural Pendle has shut unexpectedly, leaving regulars in shock.
Enterprise Inns, which owns the Fanny Grey Inn, in High Lane, Salterforth, confirmed that the pub had closed temporarily.
But the firm said attempts were being made to re-open the popular country inn as soon as possible.
Less than a year ago landlord David Whiteside and his wife Jean were celebrating receiving a coveted Les Routiers plaque after the gastro pub-type cuisine impressed a mystery diner from the national guide.
Bosses would not comment on why the pub was closed.
Regulars said they arrived on Tuesday to find it shut with a notice from Enterprise Inns in the window.
Andy Shackleton, of Higher Park, Barnoldswick, said: “The pub served a real good range of beer and had a terrific menu.
“There were always quite a few regulars sat at the bar and it had a really good country pub atmosphere.
“It is a loss to the area, there is no doubt about that.”
Speaking after winning the Les Routiers plaque last year, Mr Whiteside said he had previously worked in the field of civil engineering.
The Fanny Grey had garnered a good reputation when head chef Craig Simcoe was in charge of the kitchen and menu.
An Enterprise spokesman said: “Enterprise Inns plc can confirm that the Fanny Grey Inn is closed temporarily.
“We will endeavour to reopen to the local community as soon as possible.”
