TRIBUTES have been paid to a Pendle man who died after being hit by a car in Spain.
A local councillor has expressed her shock and sympathy at the death of Alan Laurie, 30, who died after a vehicle struck him just outside Barcelona.
Mr Laurie lived in Cross Flatts Crescent, Salterforth, before his death on June 22 while on holiday. He was said to be getting out of his own car when a wagon hit him.
Coun Valerie Langtree, from Salterforth, said: “When I met him I could see he was a man with a great sense of humour and he was cheeky, which is good to see in people.
“You knew where you stood with Alan and that was a great quality.
“I am still stunned to be honest, as are his family and no doubt his friends.
“When someone is young like Alan, it really takes all the family by surprise.
“I have said I will be available to support the family in anyway I can at this sad time.”
His parents are thought to live in Scotland and Lancaster and he also had a brother and sister who lived locally.
An inquest was opened at Burnley Coroners’ Court on Tuesday and was adjourned pending medical tests.
A service will be held at Skipton Crematorium at 1pm today.
