SEVENTEEN-YEAR-OLD Charlie Gledhill-Flynn’s gap-year plans have been boosted after he won a £2,000 travel award at Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School.
The annual Frank Singleton Travel Award, donated by former QEGS pupil Howard Singleton after his 88-year-old father, is offered to sixth form students.
Applicants had to write to the headmaster explaining how their travel plans will benefit them as an individual, and the community.
Charlie, from Barrowford, is about to sit A-Level exams in biology, chemistry and history, and has been accepted by the youth and education charity Raleigh to be part of its team carrying out environmental and community projects in Costa Rica, and Nicaragua, from October to December.
He also plans to travel to Australia and the Far East before beginning a degree in medicine at Manchester University.
