THE introduction of charges for bulky waste collection in Blackburn with Darwen had been strongly rumoured in recent weeks.
And on Thursday councillors are set to agree a fee of £10 per item.
This covers all large items, typically including household appliances, and critics say it will lead to a rise in fly-tipping.
Coun Lee said the charge was lower than neighbouring boroughs, adding: “Hopefully we have set it low enough so people will be able to afford it, rather than driving around the corner and dumping things.”
A £29 charge is also to be introduced for replacement household bins.
About 6,000 have to be replaced by the town hall every year, costing the council £130,000.
