DETECTIVES are hunting two suspects in Ramsbottom believed to be responsible for a ‘violent attack’ which left a man with a leg broken in four places.

CCTV footage has been released of two men who attacked a 21-year-old man in the middle of Bury and then caught a taxi to the valley town.

Police say the young man, who was set upon in Bury’s Broad Street, suffered two breaks to his right shin, a broken knee and a further fracture above his ankle.

He has undergone major surgery to repair the multiple fractures, police said.

The incident began around 3.45am last Sunday and after the violence the pair ran off towards Silver Street.

They caught a taxi to the Nuttall Lane area of Ramsbottom and witnesses who saw their progress from there are being sought.

Det Ch Insp Lynne Vernon, of Bury CID, said: “This is a violent, unprovoked attack which left an innocent a man with a terrible injury to his leg.

“We have released a CCTV image of the two offenders and we are confident we can identify them.

“If you think you can help, please get in touch.”

Police said the two attackers were white and in their early to mid 20s. The first man was wearing a white t-shirt and the second was in a blue and white checked shirt.

Potential witnesses are asked to call Greater Manchester Police on 0161 856 8139 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555111.
