MORE than £8.6million of public cash was spent in Hyndburn on housing projects last year, it has been revealed.
The money could be the last great pay-out of its kind in the area with much of the proposed Housing Market Renewal cash for this year expected to be scrapped under government cost-cutting.
Money was spent last year on compulsory purchase schemes as well as refurbishment and neighbourhood management projects.
Around £1.6million was spent on refurbishments to houses in Princess Street, in Accrington.
There was also £2.4million spent on house clearance in West Accrington as well as £1.2million spent on house purchases in Woodnook.
Coun Peter Clarke said: “It is hoped that this year more work will take place in Lina Street and Emma Street.”
