TWO brothers from Burnley will unleash a new crop of musical and artistic talent on up to 10,000 visitors with a new London summer festival.

Laurence Daw, 23, who is organising Little London Fields with brother Alex, 28, said the free, independent festival would feature a mix of contemporary art, cutting-edge fashion and new music from up-and-coming bands.

The former Habergham High School pupil gave up his job at a trading company in Savile Row to focus on raising funds for the event, which will be held at Hackney’s trendy London Fields, a preferred hanging-out place of Kate Moss and Lily Allen.

He said: “I was at the Isle of Wight Festival last year with some of my friends and it was magical. I want to create magic.

“The founder of Glastonbury Michael Eavis is a big inspiration for me.

"I don't feel like we are taking on the ‘big boys’ at all.”

Laurence moved to London after graduating in law from the University of Leeds, while Alex, a professional artist, who has had his work exhibited in the National Gallery, is a former University of Central Lancashire student.

Their mum, Liz, lives in Applecross Drive, Burnley.

Bands including Mirrors, The Saudis, Young Athletes League and Robot Disaster are all on the festival bill.

However, the ‘high-profile’ headline act is being kept secret and will be announced before the big day.

Laurence is urging acts from the north to get in touch with a view to being involved at Little London Fields.

If the festival is a success, he said he would love to host a similar event in Burnley.

He said: “We would love to do something at Towneley Hall if we can get our hands on it.

"The grounds are pretty special. I want to bring some of the biggest names to our hometown to put Burnley back on the map.”

The festival takes place on August 7. Go to www.littlelondonfields.co.uk.
