PLANS to create East Lancashire’s first ‘green college’ in Nelson have moved a step closer after council officers lent the scheme their support in light of new information.

The proposals to convert Trafalgar House, once home to Nelson Municipal Secondary School, into the further education centre, went before Pendle Council’s Nelson Committee earlier this month.

But a decision on the college, which would offer between 150 and 500 students from all over the world courses on environmental issues, such as carbon management and carbon efficiency, was deferred for a month after councillors asked for more information.

Property developer Adam Bhailok, son of multi-millionaire Yousuf Bhailok, is behind the plans.

Seven jobs would be created at the site.

The committee will discuss the application at Nelson Town Hall on Monday July 5 at 7pm.

A more detailed report has now been drawn up along with planning officers’ recommendation that the proposals are rubber-stamped.
