A FATHER-of-two who mowed down a man on the pavement with his car in a bid to ‘scare’ him has been jailed for 20 months.

Burnley Crown Court heard how Tariq Khan, 25, left victim Mohammed Bashir unconscious and with a dislocated shoulder after hitting him in the town, last August.

Khan, who lied repeatedly to the police and the probation service and asked his partner to lie for him, had threatened the victim just before the incident.

Martin Hackett, prosecuting, said the defendant told Mr Bashir: “I will kill you. Watch, I am going to get you.”

Mr Hackett said Mr Bashir then heard a screech of tyres and the Renault Clio Khan was driving mounted the kerb and hit his leg causing him to fall.

Judge Heather Lloyd told him he had used his car as a potential weapon to frighten Mr Bashir and as a consequence he ended up injured.

The defendant, of Clive Street, Burnley, admitted dangerous driving and assault causing actual bodily harm.

He was also banned for three years and must take an extended retest.

Tahir Khan, defending, said Khan, who had been foolish, expressed regret and remorse.
