POLICE have named the teenager Lancashire canoeist whose body was found in the Lake District today.
Chad Salisbury, 18, of Leyland, failed to resurface after going under the water while canoeing on Ullswater yesterday afternoon.
A major operation was launched at around 2.15pm yesterday involving the Great North Air Ambulance, Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team, Liverpool Coastguard and several concerned people.
One man, James Sawyer, who was holidaying in the area, said: "We saw helicopters flying overhead and there was lots of police activity.
"We went to see what was happening and then we heard that a canoe had overturned but the man hadn't come back up. Everyone was quite shocked by it."
Any witnesses to the incident should contact Penrith Police on 0845 3300247.
