MANY schoolchildren across East Lancashire will be able to watch England’s crucial World Cup game against Slovenia today.
Special measures, such as sending pupils home early or erecting big screens, are being introduced at some schools.
But education bosses at Lancashire County Council and Blackburn with Darwen Council have not given any advice and have left arrangements to individual schools.
Padiham Green Primary School, in St Annes Street, has rearranged a planned exhibition about the new Padiham Greenway so pupils and staff can watch more of the game.
A school spokesman said: “The exhibition is running until 3.30pm now instead of 5pm. Children will be allowed to go home at 2.45pm to watch the game with family if they wish.”
Students at Pleckgate High School, in Pleckgate Road, will be able to watch the game on a big screen in the hall, with lessons finishing at 3pm, when the match kicks off.
But youngsters at Feniscowles Primary, in Livesey Branch Road, will finish at normal time, at 3.35pm.
And Elaine Dawson, head teacher at Sir John Thursby Community College, in Eastern Avenue, Burnley, said lessons would finish at normal time although children would be able to watch the rest of the game at school.
“Lessons will continue as normal until 3.20pm, we won’t be sending students home early.
“From then we will stream the game live in our lecture theatre so the students can stay behind to watch the game with staff there if they wish.”
