A YOUNGSTER’S birthday party on Friday night was disrupted after a wall light caught fire in a bedroom.

Clothing had been on top of the light in the loft-conversion room at the house in Green Lane, Cliviger, at 10pm.

A boy had been celebrating his birthday with friends, who were due to sleep over.

But when the boy’s mum checked the bedroom, she found that the light had overheated and set fire to the clothing.

Firefighters from Burnley attended the scene and found around six youngsters and the mother waiting outside the house as thick smoke filled the loft.

Watch manager Neil Mark said: “There was a lot of heat and smoke when we got there and we had to use breathing apparatus to tackle the fire.

“However, luckily it was restricted to the attic room and the eaves, which they had used for storage.”

The loft room was left with smoke damage.
