A TAXI driver who got caught short ended up being locked in a toilet at a car garage for half an hour last night.

The driver, a 40-year-old man working for an Accrington firm, had slipped unnoticed into the customer toilet inside the Kitchens Garage in Trafalgar Street, Burnley, around 8.30pm.

But the door had wedged shut and staff only heard his banging and shouting after 30 minutes.

Workers called the fire service who arrived around 9pm and used breaking in tools to prise the door open.

A spokesman for Burnley Fire Station said: "The staff were unaware he had wandered in and nobody knew he was stuck in there until eventually they heard his banging.

"He had his mobile phone with him, though.

"His firm must have been wanting to know why he had taken so long!"
