HUNDREDS of children sung their hearts out in Blackburn with Darwen’s Mini Sing 2010.
The event for primary schools, in King George’s Hall, yesterday will be followed up by the Big Sing today when high schools across the area will take to the stage.
Organisers Kate Parkinson, lead vocal tutor, and head of music at Blackburn with Darwen Council, Jayne Perrott, said the event was becoming so popular they had to turn away primary schools who wanted to join in this year.
As a result, the pair have said they will adopt a rota system from next year onwards.
Around 500 children took part in the fifth annual event. Another 500 are due on stage tonight.
The events are part of the national Sing Up. Those taking part performed special pieces created for the national event. Jayne said: “We were pleased with the Mini Sing. The children were enthusiastic. I think the Big Sing will be fantastic.”
