AN 89-YEAR-OLD woman has been airlifted to hospital after suffering serious head injuries in a motorway smash this morning.
The accident involving a Peugeot 206 and a Freelander took place near to junction 32 on the M6 northbound at just before 10am.
It caused hours of chaos for motorists as an air ambulance landed on the motorway to take the elderly passenger of the Freelander to the Royal Preston Hospital.
The male driver of the Freelander and the female driver of the Peugeot 206 suffered minor injuries.
Two lanes on the motorway remained closed until around noon.
