A NEW restaurant opens in King Street, Blackburn, today.
The Courthouse Restaurant is described as an innovative social enterprise project run by East Lancashire Deaf Society (ELDS).
The aim is to create employment opportunities for deaf people, and to be a leading centre in catering and hospitality.
Doug Alker, ELDS chairman, said: “Ever since I saw the concept of Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen, I have always wanted the same for deaf people and give them opportunities that they would not get elsewhere.
“Blackburn is in need of a good-quality restaurant that serves traditional food, opportunities for deaf people, a social enterprise concept and social inclusion.
“The Courthouse provides all this on many different levels."
The Courthouse, in Kings Court, will focus on breakfasts and lunches.
It will be open Monday to Friday, from 8am to 4pm.
