A ‘VITAL’ household waste disposal and recycling centre in Pendle is to remain open prompting celebrations from councillors.
County Hall bosses had been carrying out a study to determine which of Lancashire’s household waste disposal and recycling centres were the most well-used before deciding which should be closed as part of a cost-cutting exercise.
Barnoldswick’s West Close Road was among the 23 being looked at in Lancashire, but it is to remain open.
Councillors from across the county put forward cases for their area’s centres to remain open, but eventually four sites were selected.
West Craven County Councillor Keith Bailey said: “There’s no way I was going to let them close our centre. We all rely on this great service.
“I use it myself on a regular basis and the staff are so helpful.”
One of the sites scheduled to close is Padiham.
