THE sound of cannon fire and the smell of gunpowder filled the grounds of Hoghton Tower during the Bank Holiday weekend.
Lancashire Militia descended on the hilltop manor house to host 17th Century battle re-enactments, showing onlookers what life was like for soldiers in the English Civil War, including their cooking techniques, types of weapons and even their use of alchemy.
The weekend’s displays at Hoghton delighted crowds with cannons, musket fire and skirmish tactics and as well as special sword displays.
